Trump says he will sue Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, over Epstein letter report

Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to sue the Wall Street Journal, as well as owners NewsCorp and media mogul Rupert Murdoch over reporting a letter the president allegedly sent to disgraced financier Jeffery Epstein.
Trump, in a long, rambling, post on Truth.Social, repeatedly asserted that the letter was fake, and that the WSJ had been warned over publishing its story.
“The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued,” Trump said, adding that he “will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly.”
In a separate post, Trump said he had ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all grand jury transcripts related to the Epstein investigation.
Trump’s post came just shortly after the WSJ released a report stating Trump had sent a “bawdy” letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. The letter was reportedly collected by Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell for a birthday album.
The WSJ report comes amid a growing scandal at the White House over the president’s alleged links to Epstein, who was arrested in 2006 on numerous charges of sex trafficking minors. Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019, while his associate Maxwell remains in federal custody.
The scandal came back into focus earlier in July after the Trump administration reversed course on a pledge to release documents it claimed would make major revelations about Epstein’s clientele, which allegedly include several wealthy and politically powerful individuals. The documents were part of a Department of Justice investigation into Epstein.

Trump, in his post on Thursday, repeated his unfounded claims that the Epstein “hoax” was created by the Democrats and the political left. The president had earlier this week also lashed out at his supporters for refusing to move past the controversy over the Epstein files.
Billionaire Elon Musk, who is embroiled in a public feud with Trump, has also repeatedly brought up the Epstein files. Musk on Thursday mocked Trump’s claims that the files were a hoax.
The president had earlier this year won a case against 60 Minutes/CBS over the airing of an edited interview with his 2024 presidential opponent Kamala Harris, which he claimed was misleading and defamatory. Trump touted this win in his post on Thursday.
